Ios, Sikinos and Folegandros islands


Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
The scrub-dominated islands in the South Cyclades and the adjacent rocky islets. Human activities include tourism, fishing, arable agriculture and livestock-farming.



Key biodiversity
The area is important for breeding seabirds and raptors. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Larus audouinii.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threats are tourism and infrastructure developments and hunting. Part of the area is a candidate SAC.



Protected areas
National Partial International None3,700 ha of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Anemomyloi-Psathokalamos-Pr. Ilias Iou, 3,700 ha). 400 ha of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Rachidia-Trypales/ Folegandros, 400 ha).
