Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
A complex of woodlands (mostly pine
Pinus-dominated), lakes, rivers and meadows. The majority of the area is under forest management and is used for recreation.
This is one of the most important sites in Lithuania for
Coracias garrulus, and
Caprimulgus europaeus;
Tetrao tetrix and
Alcedo atthis are also common. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria:
Haliaeetus albicilla (non-breeding) and
Crex crex (breeding).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Some parts of the IBA are covered by the national IBA monitoring network. Part of the IBA has been managed to stop forest succession.

International None40,570 ha of IBA covered by National Park (Auktaitija, 40,570 ha). 800 ha of IBA covered by Strict Nature reserve (800 ha).
