Site description (2000 baseline)
Situated on a poorly-drained flood-plain, and underlain by wind-blown soils, the site consists of a salt-lake and surrounding arable fields and saline grassland. Human activities include grazing and arable farming.
Key biodiversity
An important staging area for migrating waterbirds, especially for Grus grus. Passage species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Anser erythropus (no data), Branta ruficollis (2-11 birds), Numenius tenuirostris (has not been seen for 20 years).
