Huzhong Nature Reserve


Site description (2009 baseline):

Site location and context
Located in Huzhong District of Da Hinggan Ling Region. Huzhong Nature Reserve lies between the main ridge of the Da Hinggan Ling mountains and the north-eastern slope of the Yilehuli Shan mountains, and it is the only nature reserve in the taiga forest zone in China.

Key biodiversity

Non-bird biodiversity: There are 56 species of mammals in the reserve, including the nationally protected Alces alces, Gulo gulo and Martes zibellina.



Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
Established as a provincial-level nature reserve in 1984, and upgraded to Huzhong National Nature Reserve in 1988.
