Humedal Chacopata - Marine


Site description (2012 baseline):

Site location and context
This Marine IBA is identified using seaward extensions around breeding colonies. It originates from the Venezuela Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and falls within the Atlantic, Western Central FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 788 km2 and borders the coastline. The depth ranges from 0 to 1 m, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 25.46 and 25.88 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 2.11 and 3.48 mg/m3.

Key biodiversity
1 species triggers IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. Seaward extensions around breeding colony; Humedal Chacopata include key near-colony areas for breeding populations of Brown Pelican (LC).
