Site description (2009 baseline)
Located 35 km north-east of Songpan County. The highest peak in the IBA is Xuebaoding, at 5,588 m, and the lowest point lies at the eastern edge of the reserve, at 1,700 m. The vegetation shows prominent vertical zonation, with broadleaf evergreen and deciduous mixed forest (1,800-2,000 m), coniferous-broadleaf mixed forest (2,000-2,300 m), coniferous forest (2,300-3,800 m) and alpine scrub and grassland (above 3,800 m).
Key biodiversity
Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected animals include Ailurpoda melanolenca, Ailurus fulgens, Pygathrix roxellanae, Panthera pardus, Neofelis nebulosa, Felis temmincki, Cervus unicolor, Moschus berezovskii and Pseudois nayaur.
