Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
A very large wetland in Sudursveit and Mýrar, south-east Iceland. Habitats comprise extensive sedge marshes (
Carex,
Eriophorum), pools, sandy areas with rushes
Juncus, mudflats and brackish lagoons. The main land-use is grazing.
Information on birds is limited, but the area is known to be important for breeding wildfowl and waders as well as for staging waterbirds.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Hunting is a problem.
