Site description (2009 baseline):

Located in northern Shenmu County. Hongjian Nur is the largest lake in this desert region. The IBA has little human activity, and large number of wintering and breeding waterbirds.

Non-bird biodiversity: No information.

Established as the county-level Hongjian Nur Nature Reserve in 1996.
