Site location and context

Located in Hulun Buir League, 100 km south of Hailar City.

Key biodiversity

Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected plants include Pinus sylvestris var. mongolica (the biggest forest of this species grown on arid zone in Asia), and animals include Ursus arctos, Cervus elaphus, Lutra lutra and Lepus timidus.

Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity

Established as Honggolj Nature Reserve in 1998, to protect the forest of the area and to prevent desertification, and upgraded to a national nature reserve in 2003.
