Site description (2009 baseline)
Hongfeng Hu is located on the upper Maotiao He river (a tributary of the Wu Jiang), with the dam in Qingzhen City, and is has a surface area of 57.2 km2. Baihua Hu is located on the middle reaches of the Maotiao He river, with the dam located in Guiyang City, and is has a surface area of 14.5 km2. These lakes are now national and provincial tourism spots, respectively. At Hongfeng Hu most of the waterbirds aggregate in the northern part of the lake, while waterbirds at Baihua Hu are mostly found in the bays with the least human disturbance. Guiyang City has caused water pollution in the area, as has the development of tourism.
