Site description (2010 baseline):
Site location and context
The site is located south-east of Studjenoe Karasukskiy rayon of Novosibirsk region. The hole represents a vast system of fresh and bracken lakes alternating with major water-meadows, steppe and saline areas. Bird counts were performed in June-August of 2007-2009 and partially in August of 2010. When investigating the wetlands, there was realized the absolute account of the majority of birds without extrapolation to the territory.
The information of the number of birds in 1990-2000 during autumn flight was received from the inspector Gusev of the preserve “Yuzhnay”. Our own observations allow to consider this data reliable. The further investigations are required as the nesting of the whole number of rare species is possible in this region. Also the investigation of the whole IBA territory is needed, as the achievement of the threshold values of the criterion A4.1 is quite possible here for some birds (Phalacrocorax carbo, Ardea cinerea etc.).
The following semi-aquatic birds were noticed on nesting and movements in June-August: Black-necked Grebe, Red-necked Grebe, Great Bittern, Great Egret, Whooper Swan, Mute Swan, Mallard, Gadwall, Garganey, Eurasian Wigeon, Common Teal, Northern Shoveler, Northern Pintail, Common Pochard, Tufted Duck, Red-crested Pochard, Common Shelduck, Common Coot, Little Ringed Plover, Red-necked Phalarope, Northern Lapwing, Redshank, Marsh Sandpi-per, Wood Sandpiper, Little Stint, Temminck’s Stint, Curlew Sandpiper, Dunlin, Ruff, Curlew, Black-tailed Godwit, Black-winged Stilt, Pied Avocet, Common Snipe, White-winged Tern, Black Tern, Little Tern, Caspian Tern, Com-mon Tern, Larus barabensis, Mew Gull, Pallas's Gull, Black-headed Gull, Little Gull, Bearded Parrotbill etc.
Non-bird biodiversity: The majority of wetlands are rich in fish (Crucian Carp, Perch, Wild Common Carp etc.)
Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
The ecological centre “Strizh” realizes the monitoring of the number of rare species of birds in this region. The active educational campaign is conducted for the local population. Most of the site is a part of the State Biology Preserve of Regional Value “Yuzhnyi” of Novosibirsk region.
