Site location and context
A large island with steep cliffs on its northernmost peninsula. Land covers 220 ha of the site, the rest being sea.



Key biodiversity
An important site for breeding seabirds.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Planned oil production in the Barents Sea may have a negative impact on coastal and marine birds.



Protected areas
National High International None430 ha of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (Hjelmsøystauran, 430 ha).
