Site description (2009 baseline):

Located in the north-eastern part of Daqing City. Heiyupao is a reservoir formed during water reallocation work along the Nen Jiang river. Habitats include meadow, grassland, woodland, marshes and 6,000 ha of agricultural land near the reservoir.

Non-bird biodiversity: More than 20 species of mammals recorded, including Lepus capensis, Ondatra zibethicus and Spermophilus dauricus.

Established as a county-level nature reserve (14,400 ha) in 1991, mainly to protect birds and water resources.
