Haçlı Lake

Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
A stream-fed freshwater lake (1,680 ha) situated south of the town of Bulanýk. Extensive meadows (still hand-cut) adjoin the lake; marshes are found to the south and south-west. The lake is surrounded by hills, except in the south and east where it borders the Kazan and Tohmanik plains. Limited fishing activities take place; water is used for irrigation.

Key biodiversity
Important for breeding wildfowl. It is highly likely that the available information severely underestimates the importance of this IBA.

Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
No serious threats are known at the site. Although no ornithological data exist prior to the lake being converted for irrigation purposes, it seems likely that the artificially high water-levels have altered the character of the wetland system.
