Site location and context
The site is shown on maps as an extensive marsh, fed by rivers from the north, lying c.40 km north of the Tigris and c.85 km east of Baghdad. No further information is available.
The site appears never to have been visited by an ornithologist, though it was considered by Scott and Carp (1982) to be possibly of great importance for wintering waterbirds.
