Hagieni forest


Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
An isolated area of forest in a steppe zone, dominated by Quercus. The forest contains many small clearings with wetlands and patches of grassland.



Key biodiversity
This is an important site for breeding forest species and migrating passerines. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Aythya nyroca (4-8 passage birds).



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The most important threat is from afforestation with Pinus˜fewer species have been recorded in plantations compared with natural forest.



Protected areas
National Partial International None393 ha of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (Hagieni, 393 ha).
