Site description (2009 baseline)
Located on the western border of Zhejiang Province, adjacent to Wuyuan and Dexing counties in Jiangxi Province. Gutian Shan is part of the Nanling mountains, and the highest peak in the IBA is Shi’er Shan at 1,258 m. There are many steep cliffs and rapid streams. The water from the IBA flows into Poyang Lake before entering the Yangtze River.
Key biodiversity
Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected animals include Neofelis nebulosa, Selenarctos thibetanus, Capricornis sumatraensis and Cervus nippon. A population of Muntiacus crinifrons is estimated at 300-400.
