Site description (1999 baseline):

Located around 40 km east of Jember.

Non-bird biodiversity: Bos javanicus, Cuon alpinus, Panthera pardus and Trachypithecus auratus (Whitten et.al.1996, Nijman 1997).

The forest in Gunung Raung is in good condition (MacKinnon et.al.1982). One of the largest remaining forest block in Java (Whitten et.al.1996)

60000 ha of this area is proposed as nature reserve.
