Gunung Papandayan-Kamojang

Site location and context
Kamojang is located around 7 km north of Garut while Papandayan is around 21 km south-west of Garut.



Key biodiversity

Non-bird biodiversity: The other important faunas in Kamojang are Presbytis comata and Trachypithecus auratus (Nijman 1997). And fauna in Papandayan are Hylobates moloch, Presbytis comata and Trachypithecus auratus (Asquith et.al.1995, Nijman 1997)



Habitat and land use
The habitat type of Kamojang is upper mountain rainforest with an important water catchment function and recreation value. Gunung Papandayan has degraded mountain forest with hot water springs (MacKinnon et.al. 1982).



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Forest cutting and wild hunting (MacKinnon et.al.1982)



Protected areas
The area includes:1) Kamojang Nature Reserve (7500 ha) based on SK Menteri Pertanian No. 170/Kpts/Um/3/79 on 13 March 1979.2) Kawah Kamojang Recreation Park (500 ha) based on SK Menteri Pertanian No.170/Kpts/Um/3/1979.3) Papandayan Nature Reserve (6623 ha) based on SK Menteri Pertanian No.681/Kpts/Um/1/1979 on 22 January 1979.4) Papandayan Recreation Park (225 ha) based on SK Menteri Pertanian No.655/Kpts/Um/10/1978.(Anon 1997, Anon 1998).
