Site location and context
Gunung Muna is the highest mountain in Alor Island.
The 1998 survey found Yellow-crested Cockatoo
Cacatua sulphurea around of the area i.e. Halerman 4 birds and Tulen II 8 birds (Setiawan
et.al. 2000). Follow-up survey is needed to monitoring the bird population or other basic information.
Top of the mountain is covered by good forest and lower part of the mountain is covered by disturb monsoon forest (Monk
et.al. 1997).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Illegal hunting, fire and land clearing (MacKinnon
et.al.1982, Anon 1995b, Monk
et.al.1997).
15000 ha of this area is proposed as Nature Reserve (MacKinnon
et.al.1982, Anon 1995b).
