Site description (1999 baseline):
Site location and context
Located around 43 km south-east of Kediri, it consists of 4 main mountains, Gunung Kawi (2651 m), Gunung Kelud (1731 m), Gunung Butak (2868 m) and Gunung Pitrang (2625 m) Anon 1989).
Non-bird biodiversity: Trachypithecus auratus (Nijman 1997).
The area contains rare lowland and hill forests on volcanic soils (MacKinnon
et.al.1982, Whitten
et.al.1996).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Cutting and clearence of forest for settlement (MacKinnon
et.al.1982).
Proposed as nature reserve (50000 ha).
