Site description (2003 baseline):

Site location and context
Forest area in Gunung Inerie (2245 m) (Monk et.al.1997) can only be found in the southern and western part of mountain slopes that surrounded by grassland, garden and plantation. There are Eucalyptus plantation (Ampupu plant) and bamboo in northern slopes. The forest in south of Gunung Inerie slope with altitude below 800 m already converted to plantation. Most of the forests are located on elevation between 1000-1500 m (60%).

Key biodiversity
Information about bird in this area is very limited. Follow-up survey is needed to asses bird diversity. Wallace's Scopsowl Otus silvicola and Flame-breasted Sunbird Nectarinia solaris occured in Bajawa probably live in this area. Around 12 Flores Green Pigeons Treron floris observed on Ficus spp. in Bena village, Coracina dohertyi is common in this area (Trainor & Lesmana 2000).

Habitat and land use
Tropical dry semi-evergreen forest (lower mountain forest and monsoon forest), dominated by Callophyllum spp., Garcinia spp., & Ficus spp., that surrounded by grassland (dominated by Themeda triandra, Heteropogon spp.) and pioneer vegetations, shrubs and ferns. On altitude between 1000-2230 m dominated by pioneer vegetations, shrubs and ferns (Trainor & Lesmana 2000).

Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Illegal logging, forest and grass fires, wild horse, wildlife hunting and land clearing for agriculture (Trainor and Lesmana 2000).

Protected areas
5000 ha of this area is proposed as a Nature Reserve (altitude between 500-2100 m) (BKSDA VII 1997).
