Site description (2003 baseline)
Topography Obi Island is hilly. Moro ethnic is the indigenous people in this area and they are living in small clusters. They collected food, medicinal plants and hunting. Some of Moro communities have moved to the coastal area and interacted with the outside. Main comodity of coastal people are cacao and coconut (for copra).
Key biodiversity
Carunculated Fruit-dove Ptilinopus granulifrons only lives in this island, recorded in Jikotomo (northern part outside this area) (Linsey 1995).
Non-bird biodiversity: Phalanger rothschildi (the endemic cuscus of Obi Island), two species of rats and butterfly Ornithoptera aesacus (BirdLife International 2001).
