Guniujiang Nature Reserve


Site description (2009 baseline):

Site location and context
Guniujiang is located on the border of Qimen and Shitai counties, in southern Anhui. The ridges in the IBA are the western extensions of the Huang Shan ranges, and are the major mountains in southern Anhui. Forest cover is 78%, with comprehensive representation of natural subtropical vegetation types.

Key biodiversity

Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected plants include Emmenopterys henryi, Liriodendron chinense and Ginkgo biloba. Animals include Panthera pardus, Neofelis nebulosa, Cervus nippon, Viverricula indica, Viverra zibetha and Manis pentadactyla.



Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
Established as a nature reserve in 1982, and upgraded to a national nature reserve (14,817 ha) in 1988.
