IBA Justification

The site was identified as internationally important for bird conservation in 2011 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting ('triggering') IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('trigger species') at the site:
Species Red List Season (year/s of estimate) Size IBA criteria
Black Stork Ciconia nigra LC breeding (2002–2011) 4–5 pairs C6
Common Little Bittern Ixobrychus minutus LC breeding (2004–2010) 7–9 pairs C6
Eurasian Scops-owl Otus scops LC breeding (1999) 210–250 pairs B2
Woodlark Lullula arborea LC breeding (1997–1998) 180–240 pairs B2, C6

IBA Conservation

Ideally the conservation status of the IBA will have been checked regularly since the site was first identified in 2011. The most recent assessment (2015) is shown below.

IBA conservation assessment
Year of assessment State Pressure Response
2015 very poor very high medium
Whole site assessed? State assessed by Accuracy of information
yes population good

State (condition of the trigger species' populations)
Species Actual vs Reference (units) % remaining Result
Common Quail Coturnix coturnix 75 / 375 (males) 20 very poor
Otus scops 65 / 230 (pairs) 29 very poor
Common Hoopoe Upupa epops 30 / 205 (pairs) 15 very poor
Woodlark Lullula arborea 20 / 210 (pairs) 10 very poor

State (condition of the trigger species' habitats)
Habitat Quantity (% remaining) Quality (% carrying capacity) Result
Grassland poor (40–69%) moderate (70–90%) very poor
Artificial/Terrestrial moderate (70–90%) moderate (70–90%) poor

Pressure (threats to the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Threat Timing Scope Severity Result
Agricultural expansion and intensification happening now whole of population/area (>90%) rapid decline (>30% over 3 generations) very high
Natural system modifications happening now some of population/area (10–49%) moderate decline (10–30% over 3 generations) high
Invasive and other problematic species and genes happening now some of population/area (10–49%) moderate decline (10–30% over 3 generations) high

Response (conservation actions taken for the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Designation Planning Action Result
Whole area (>90%) covered by appropriate conservation designation A management plan exists, but it is out of date or not comprehensive Substantive conservation measures are being implemented, but these are not comprehensive and are limited by resources and capacity medium
