Gongbo Nature Reserve


Site description (2009 baseline):

Site location and context
Located between the eastern Himalayas and central Nyainqêntanglha Mountain. Shaded slopes below 4,300 m are dominated by Picea spp. and Abies spp. while the sunny slopes at 3,700-4,200 m are dominated by montane Quercus spp., Sabina spp. forest occurs at 4,200-4,600 m, and alpine scrub and grassland above 4,600 m.

Key biodiversity

Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected animals include Selenarctos thibetanus, Ailurus fulgens, Capricornis sumatraensis and Naemorhedus cranbrooki.



Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
Established as a provincial-level nature reserve in 2003.
