Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
A bay with mudflats, saltwater marshes, saltwater lagoons and raised saltmarsh, islands, rocky coast, beaches, grassland and arable land.



Key biodiversity
The site holds 20,000 or more waterbirds on passage and in winter, on a regular basis.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Wetland areas are threatened by drainage and the encroachment of vegetation. Tourists cause some disturbance to birds.



Protected areas
National Low International High1,500 ha of IBA covered by Hunting Reserve (Golfe du Morbihan, 1,500 ha). 30 ha of IBA covered by Private Reserve (30 ha). 410 ha of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (Marais de Séné, 410 ha) 1,490 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Etier de Penerf, 1,490 ha). 5,830 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Golfe du Morbihan, 5,830 ha). 18,800 ha of IBA covered by Ramsar Site (Golfe du Morbihan, 23,000 ha).
