Site location and context
Glamočko polje is oriented in the NW-SE direction, 48 km long and up to 12 km wide at the widest point. It is closely surrounded by high mountain ridges of: Čemernica, Slovinj, Cincar, Golija, Staretina, Šator. Glamočko polje is a flooded polje with total flood area of 47,1 km2, hydrologically it is a part of Cetina and Pliva river basins and it is divided into two parts – Gorje (upper) and Donje (lower) poljes. In Gornje polje floods are usually present between September and May, there are also two permanent lakes – Opačićko and Kulogvino lakes. In Donje polje two streams flood during autumn, creating water surface that can be up to 7-8 m deep.
There is a number of caves: source/abyss Badanj, Veliki ponor Krive jaruge; Bukvensko lake etc.
Cultural and historical legacy contains late antic basilica in Vrba village, 30 prehistoric Illyrian forts and 27 medieval tomb necropolis.
At least two species of conservation concern breed in Glamočko polje in significant numbers: Montague’s Harrier Circus pygargus, and Barred Warbler Sylvia nisoria, while migration is characterized by large stop-over flocks of cranes Grus grus, meadow pipits Anthus pratensis, and Red-footed Falcons Falco vespertinus. During winter Hen Harriers Circus cyaneus are abundant. Apart from 90 registered bird species, 6 fish and 29 dragonfly species have been recorded on polje.
197 registered plants and five vegetation types were recorded in this polje.
The most important for birds are submediterranean wet and flood meadows (Trifolio-Hordeetalia), flood and marshy grasslands and pastures (Deschampsietalia i Molinietalia), dry grasslands (Brometalia erecti) and peat bogs (Caricetalia davallianae). Glamočko polje is known also by peat vegetation types of relic character, including large number of subarctic and glacial relict species, mostly in associations Eriophoro-Caricetum davallianae.

Glamočko polje is located in Western Bosnia and is intersected by a regional road Drvar - Glamoč - Livno.
From the North the polje can be reached from Jajce and Banja Luka.
