Site location and context
Ganzaling Nature Reserve is located in the north-east of Sanya City, and is the southern section of the Wuzhi Shan ridges. The natural vegetation in the IBA includes montane rainforest, montane evergreen broadleaf forest, scrub and grassland on the hillsides.
Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected plants include Litchi chinensis var. euspontanea.
Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
Established as a provincial-level nature reserve (2,103 ha) in 1985, and has become a rescue and captive-breeding centre for Hainan’s threatened wildlife. Logging and poaching have largely been stopped since 1993.
