Site description (2009 baseline):
Site location and context
The eastern part of mangrove stand in Futian Nature Reserve is located at the mouth of the Shenzhen River, adjacent to Mai Po Nature Reserve in Hong Kong. The southern part of the nature reserve has an inter-tidal mudflat, but much of the area has been reclaimed for urban and industrial development. Every year a large number of migratory and wintering waterbirds utilize this wetland. Futian can be regarded as an important buffer area for Mai Po Nature Reserve, with birds using both Mai Po and the Futian IBA. Industrialization, urbanization and varies kind of pollution are threatening the natural environment in the IBA.
Non-bird biodiversity: No information.
Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
