Forest at Drawa River

IBA Justification

The site was identified as internationally important for bird conservation in 2010 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting ('triggering') IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('trigger species') at the site:
Species Red List Season (year/s of estimate) Size IBA criteria
Common Crane Grus grus LC passage (2004–2009) 2,000–3,000 birds C2
Common Crane Grus grus LC breeding (2004–2009) 140–190 pairs C6
Black Stork Ciconia nigra LC breeding (2004–2009) 12–16 pairs C6
Eurasian Eagle-owl Bubo bubo LC breeding (2004–2009) 9–14 pairs C6
Osprey Pandion haliaetus LC breeding (2004–2009) 7–10 pairs C6
European Honey-buzzard Pernis apivorus LC breeding (2004–2009) 60–80 pairs C6
Western Marsh-harrier Circus aeruginosus LC breeding (2004–2009) 50–65 pairs C6
White-tailed Sea-eagle Haliaeetus albicilla LC breeding (2004–2009) 21–25 pairs C6
Red Kite Milvus milvus LC breeding (2004–2009) 10–15 pairs C1, C6
Common Kingfisher Alcedo atthis LC breeding (2004–2009) 60–90 pairs C6
Red-breasted Flycatcher Ficedula parva LC breeding (2004–2009) 150–300 pairs C6

IBA Conservation

Ideally the conservation status of the IBA will have been checked regularly since the site was first identified in 2010. The most recent assessment (2010) is shown below.

IBA conservation assessment
Year of assessment State Pressure Response
2010 moderate very high low
Whole site assessed? State assessed by Accuracy of information
no habitat medium

State (condition of the trigger species' habitats)
Habitat Quantity (% remaining) Quality (% carrying capacity) Result
Forest - moderate (70–90%) moderate
Wetlands (inland) - good (>90%) good

Pressure (threats to the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Threat Timing Scope Severity Result
Biological resource use happening now whole of population/area (>90%) moderate decline (10–30% over 3 generations) very high
Human intrusions and disturbance happening now whole of population/area (>90%) moderate decline (10–30% over 3 generations) very high
Agricultural expansion and intensification happening now most of population/area (50–90%) moderate decline (10–30% over 3 generations) high
Energy production and mining happening now some of population/area (10–49%) moderate decline (10–30% over 3 generations) high
Residential and commercial development happening now some of population/area (10–49%) slow decline (1–10% over 3 generations) medium
Transportation and service corridors happening now some of population/area (10–49%) slow decline (1–10% over 3 generations) medium
Invasive and other problematic species and genes happening now some of population/area (10–49%) slow decline (1–10% over 3 generations) medium
Pollution happening now some of population/area (10–49%) slow decline (1–10% over 3 generations) medium
Climate change and severe weather happening now some of population/area (10–49%) slow decline (1–10% over 3 generations) medium
Natural system modifications happening now whole of population/area (>90%) no or slight decline (<1% over 3 generations) low
No known threats happening now few individuals/small area (<10%) no or slight decline (<1% over 3 generations) low

Response (conservation actions taken for the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Designation Planning Action Result
Whole area (>90%) covered by appropriate conservation designation No management planning has taken place Substantive conservation measures are being implemented, but these are not comprehensive and are limited by resources and capacity low
