Site description (2000 baseline)
Freshwater lakes in an area of heathland now largely converted to conifer plantations; some patches of heathland and tiny remnants of natural Quercus forest remain.

Key biodiversity
Numbers of passage and wintering ducks have declined, probably due to decreasing water quality. Mergus merganser and Anas crecca were recorded in internationally important numbers (meeting current IBA criterion B1i) in 1983.
