Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
A 62-km section of low-lying coastline situated east of Flensburg. Includes the inshore waters of a sandy bay (up to 1,400 m wide). Tourism, boat traffic and fishing are the main human activities.



Key biodiversity
The site holds more than 20,000 wintering wildfowl on a regular basis.



Protected areas
National Partial International High775 ha of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (Geltinger Birk, 775 ha). 363 ha of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (Holnis, 363 ha). IBA overlaps with Special Protection Area.
