Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
The site consists of two parts. The Feuchte Ebene is a semi-open plain, previously with large areas of non-intensive pasture, now largely converted to arable cultivation. There are still substantial areas of humid grassland and small pockets of dry grassland, fens and alluvial forest. The Rauchwarther Platte is an undulating plateau, largely used for arable agriculture. The north of the IBA contains a large
Quercus forest.
An important site for species breeding in humid grasslands and arable land. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria:
Otis tarda (0-2 pairs).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The major threats are from intensive agriculture, drainage and a planned recreation park. Since 1995, BirdLife Austria has been working with local farmers running a conservation project for
Crex crex.
National Low
International Partial11 ha of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (Pischelsdorfer Wiesen, 11 ha). 6,500 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Feuchte Ebene-Leithaauen, 10,518 ha).
