Site description (2009 baseline):

Site location and context
Located in the northern and eastern part of Baoxing County. The vegetation shows prominent vertical zonation, with subtropical broadleaf evergreen forest from 1,000-1,500 m, broadleaf evergreen and deciduous mixed forest from 1,500-2,000 m, coniferous-broadleaf mixed forest from 2,000-2,700 m, coniferous forest from 2,700-3,800 m, alpine scrub and grassland from 3,600-3,900 m, alpine scrub and grassland from 3,900-4,400 m, and alpine vegetation above 4,400 m.

Key biodiversity

Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected plants include Davidia involucrate, Tetracentron sinense and Cercidiphyllum japonicum. Animals include Ailurpoda melanolenca, Pygathrix roxellanae, Panthera pardus, Neofelis nebulosa, Ailurus fulgens, Cervus albirostris, Pseudois nayaur and Cervus unicolor.



Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
The IBA includes Fengtongzhai National Nature Reserve (39,000 ha), which was established in 1975. Fengtongzhai was designated in 2006 under the World Heritage Convention as part of the ‘Sichuan Giant Panda Sanctuaries World Heritage Site’.
