Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
The largest area of mire in Baden-Württemberg, with lakes, forested areas of fen, and raised bogs all present. Increasingly large areas of bog are no longer utilized; smaller areas are still used for agriculture.
105 species regularly breed; 267 species have been recorded in total.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
There is an ongoing LIFE project relating to the protection of nature in the Federsee area.
National High
International High2,900 ha of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (Federseemoor, 2,900 ha). IBA overlaps with Landscape Protected Area. IBA overlaps with Special Protection Area.
