Site description (2007 baseline)
The IBA comprises an area of blanket mire and pools, situated in the Lammermuir Hills to the south-east of Edinburgh. Such mires are scarce and declining in Midlothian, and this example is relatively undisturbed. The site is a major wintering roost site for Anser brachyrhynchus, and supports a suite of breeding moorland birds.
