IBA Justification

The site was identified as internationally important for bird conservation in 2012 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting ('triggering') IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('trigger species') at the site:
Species Red List Season (year/s of estimate) Size IBA criteria
Chukar Alectoris chukar LC breeding (2005–2011) 1,000–1,500 pairs B2
Black Francolin Francolinus francolinus LC breeding (2005–2011) 50-249 pairs B2
Long-legged Buzzard Buteo rufinus LC breeding (2005–2011) 4–6 pairs C6
European Roller Coracias garrulus LC breeding (2005–2011) 20–80 pairs A1, B2, C1, C6
Peregrine Falcon Falco peregrinus LC breeding (2005–2011) 3–5 pairs C6
Cyprus Warbler Curruca melanothorax LC breeding (2005–2011) 1,000–2,000 pairs B3
Cyprus Wheatear Oenanthe cypriaca LC breeding (2005–2011) 500–1,000 pairs B3

IBA Conservation

Ideally the conservation status of the IBA will have been checked regularly since the site was first identified in 2012. The most recent assessment (2013) is shown below.
