Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
Sea cliffs and lava-fields (`malpaís') in the west of Lanzarote that support semi-desertic vegetation. There is no relevant human activity, other than some fishing.



Key biodiversity
The site is important for breeding seabirds and some steppic species.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Introduced rats Rattus and feral cats Felis catus impact on numbers of Calonectris diomedea. Tourists camping on the beaches disturb seabirds, and illegal hunting is also a problem.



Protected areas
National Partial International High35 ha of IBA covered by National Park (Timanfaya, 5,107 ha). 25 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (La Geria, 15,189 ha). 35 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Parque Nacional de Timanfaya, 5,107 ha).
