Site description (2009 baseline)
Located in the south-eastern corner of Nanhui District, in the Qiantang Jiang estuary, roughly in the middle of the Chinese coastline. It comprises a long inter-tidal strip extending about 40 km from the border of Pudong and Nanhui districts in the north to the gulf of Hangzhou Wan in the south, with a width of 3-5 km from the sea to the Lianggang-Nanlu highway. It occupies about 18% of the land area of Nanhui District. The IBA faces severe development pressure, and about 13,300 ha of the inter-tidal areas in Nanhui were reclaimed for urban construction in 2003.
