Eastern shore of Lake Müritz, Grosser Schwerin and Steinhorn


Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
A large freshwater lake with a range of natural, semi-natural and man-made habitats. There are bays and zones of shallow water, and a rich shoreline vegetation (especially reedbeds (Phragmites) and submerged plants). Swamps, Carex beds, sand-dunes, Juniperus heath and Pinus/Fagus forest surround the lake. Hunting (not of birds) occurs.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Threats include the effects of intensive agriculture and scrub invasion.



Protected areas
National Partial International HighIBA overlaps with Landscape Protected Area and National Park. IBA overlaps with Ramsar Site and Special Protection Area.
