Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
Shallow subtidal area, comprising both Danish and German waters (the area given here refers only to Danish waters). The area is influenced by the freshwater output of the Rivers Elbe and Weser. Food items, and hence birds, are concentrated along the often sharp front between saline and fresh water. The coordinates mark the centre of the international area.



Key biodiversity
The site is of high importance for wintering Gavia stellata and Gavia arctica (totalling over 20% of the biogeographic population) and Melanitta nigra (15% of the biogeographic population). 65.6% of the numbers given are within German territory.
