Site description (2001 baseline)
The site comprises a large alluvial plain in the north-west of the country, subject to periodic inundation, with some surface water remaining throughout the year. Dense Acacia shrub and steppe-grassland occurs along the northern edge of the site, which is extensively grazed.
Key biodiversity
See Box and Table 2 for key species. Counts made in December 1998 also revealed 700 Calidris minuta, 650 Himantopus himantopus and 286 Recurvirostra avosetta.
