This west coast estuary is of outstanding physiographic interest for its sand-dune complex, extensive tract of actively-growing raised mire and diverse flood-plain habitats. The sand-dune system comprises all stages of dune formation and associated flora. The IBA is important for wintering wildfowl. Anser albifrons are the flavirostris subspecies.
