Site summary
The site is located in the river Váh floodplain and includes a large gravel pit with a number of islands and sandbanks. Vegetation consists mostly of reed and sedge with poplar and willow seedlings. The dominant habitat is open water. The area is used mainly for recreational activities (sport fishing, hunting, tourism). The site is an important nesting site for Common Tern and a resting site for migrating bird species. The main threats to the area originate from the increase of recreational activities, in particular sport fishing, and the non-regulated gravel excavation. The site is proposed as an SPA.
