Druzno lake


Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
A shallow, nutrient-rich lake (up to 1.5 m deep) surrounded by extensive mires and swamp-forest. There is a significant daily fluctuation in water-level, caused by wind-related water-level fluctuation in the Wiœlany lagoon, which connects with this site via the Elbl¹g river. There is a rich vegetation of floating (Nymphaea) and submerged (Potamogeton) plants, as well as extensive reedbeds Phragmites. Alder Alnus carr occurs along marshy shores.



Key biodiversity
The site regularly supports 20,000 or more waterbirds during spring and autumn migration, mainly wildfowl Anser/Anas. Breeding species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Aythya nyroca (2-3 pairs), Crex crex (2-3 pairs).



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Nutrient pollution by agriculture, industry and domestic sewage poses a threat. Hunting in the nature reserve is intense.

National High International None3,021 ha of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (Jezioro Dru¿no, 3,021 ha).
