Site description (2009 baseline):

Site location and context
Located in the north-eastern part of Qiongshan City, 32 km west of Haikou City. The nature reserve lies at the edge of an inter-tidal area that extends for more than 60 km, and it is divided into a core area and a buffer area. The parts of the buffer area that have no mangroves do not belong to the nature reserve.

Non-bird biodiversity: No information.



Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
Established as a provincial-level nature reserve in 1980, and upgraded to a national nature reserve in 1987. Dongzhaigang was designated in 1992 as a ‘Wetland of International Importance’ (or Ramsar site) under the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands.
