Site description (2009 baseline)
Dongling Shan is located in the mountains of western Beijing, and is an extension of the Taihang Shan ranges, south of the Yan Shan range. Much of the IBA lies between 800-1,500 m, with the highest peak of Dongling Shan at 2,303 m. The area is isolated from human disturbance and protected from logging, and it has well-developed natural broadleaf forest, coniferous plantation, natural scrub and grassland. Vegetation cover is over 70%.
Key biodiversity
Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected animals include Panthera pardus, Vulpes vulpes, Mustela sibirica and Naemorhedus goral.
