Site summary
The area is comprised mainly of intensive agricultural land. Fragments of alkaline grassland communities are locally present, and the remains of extensively used meadows, wetlands and dried distributaries are preserved near to the watercourses. The original vegetation of floodplain forests has been preserved sparsely. The most common habitat is agricultural land. Existing fragments of forest ecosystems are used for forestry. Extracted gravel pits are used for recreational activities and sport fishing. Hunting is also very popular in the area. Dolné Považie is one of the most important nesting sites of steppe species associated with open lowland biotopes. The only recurrent nesting population of Roller nests here. The main threats to the area are intensive agricultural activities. The site is proposed as an SPA.
