Site description (2016 baseline):
Site location and context
The site is included in the Gambian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
Seaward extension of important colonies of Royal Tern, Caspian Tern, Slender-billed Gull and Grey-headed Gull. All the previous species tigger IBA criteria: Royal Tern (LC) 46925-79803 individuals, Caspian Tern (LC) 13744-22908 individuals, Slender-billed Gull (LC) 13547-22581 individuals and Grey-headed Gull (LC) 21958-36600 individuals.
The site is adjacent to the Niumi National Park, to the Tanbi Wetland National Park and to the Tanji Bird Reserve. It is also adjacent to the Delta du Saloum UNESCO-MAB Biosphere Reserve in Senegal.
